Why a bathroom-only site
Bathrooms are the most technically dense room in a house and the one where shortcuts stay hidden the longest. A shower pan that was rushed will look identical to a good one for a year or two. That gap between how a bathroom looks on handover day and how it performs five winters later is the reason this site exists: to be specific about the parts of the job that decide the outcome, and to be plain about the parts that are simply taste.
The writing here is aimed at homeowners who want to understand the trade-offs before they commit — what moving a drain really costs in time, when a tub-to-shower conversion is a small job and when it is not, and which decisions have to be made with the local building authority rather than around it.
How we work
One room, studied closely
Bathrooms carry plumbing, drainage, venting, electrical, waterproofing, tile and joinery inside a few square metres. Working only on bathrooms means the sequencing problems that catch general remodels out are the ones we deal with every week.
Local building stock drives the plan
Treasure Valley houses were not all built the same way. Older Boise homes hide cast-iron drains and narrow joist bays; 1990s and 2000s subdivisions in Meridian and Nampa share repeat layouts and vent runs; newer Kuna and Star builds are usually straightforward until you move a drain. The plan follows the house.
Nothing quoted sight unseen
Numbers only mean something after the room has been measured and the existing plumbing and subfloor have been looked at. Anything given before that is a guess dressed up as an estimate.
